Section 1-Music
1.1 Is _________ available on CD?
Possibly. However, some albums have been reissued on CD in specific
countries. Nonetheless, there is
plenty of digital Waylon to go around.
Bear Family Records in Germany has reissued all of Waylon's recorded
output from 1958-1972 on two 6-cd
box sets entitled "The Journey: Destiny's Child" (covering 1958-68) and
"The Journey: Six Strings Away"
(1968-1972).
In the US, Four of Waylon's original RCA albums have been reissued on CD
by third-party labels. Razor
and Tie reissued "Folk-Country" (82175-2) in 1998, while DCC Compact
Classics reissued "Ol' Waylon"
(DZS-147) and "Dreaming My Dreams" (DZS-161) in 1997. In 2000, Laserlight
reissued "The One And Only
Waylon Jennings" (albeit with a different cover photo)
Laserlight also reissued "Heartaches By The Number And Other Country
Favorites" in 1999. This album is
comprised of tracks that appear on earlier Waylon LP's.
Buddha Records has been VERY active in reissuing Waylon's original RCA
albums on CD, all with bonus
tracks, and with digital remastering. Their website is
http://www.buddharecords.com.
Given the fact that
Buddha is a wholly-owned BMG subsidiary, it is highly likely that future
Waylon reissues will come from
Buddha.
The albums that Buddha has reissued are: "Love Of The Common People",
"Honky Tonk Heroes", "This
Time", "Waylon Live", "Right For The Time" and "Waylon The Ramblin' Man".
All of these have bonus
tracks. All of these should be easily available thru your local or online
CD store.
1.2 What's Waylon's latest album?
"Never Say Die: Live" (Columbia/Lucky Dog CK 63853). It is a live album,
recorded over two nights at the
Ryman Auditorium in January 2000.
1.3 Where can I find the older LP's?
The most likely place is online auction house eBay. (keyword: waylon)
1.4 Is "Revelation" on CD?
Yes. It's on the "The Journey: Six Strings Away" box set.
1.5 Where can I find lyrics/tabs to Waylon's songs?
That's a good question. In the US, there has been controversy regarding
the posting of song lyrics and tabs
on the internet, and it seems that if you are not the copyright holder,
and do not have permission, you
cannot post song lyrics on the internet without facing legal action.
However, there are sites that do that are located outside of the US.
You can use a search engine such as Google to find them.
1.6 I heard that Waylon allows tape trading. Is this true?
It looks that way. In 1998, Shooter gave the green light for tape
trading, and the Jennings organization hasn't contradicted him.
1.7 Who are the Highwaymen?
The Highwaymen was a "supergroup" consisting of Waylon, Willie Nelson,
Johnny Cash, and Kris
Kristofferson. Intended as a one-shot group in 1985, the group proved
extremely popular, and went on tour.
In 1990, the Highwaymen regrouped to record "Highwayman 2". The last
Highwaymen album was "The
Road Goes On Forever", at which point all four agreed it would be the
last album together.

Section 2: Movies/TV
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1 Is "Nashville Rebel" available on video?
Yes. In 1996, Waylon's Pony Express sold VHS/NTSC copies. They may
still have copies. eBay lists copies for sale occasionally.
2.2 What other Waylon videos are out there?
Depends. As far as concert videos go, only the "Lost Outlaw Performance",
which was taped in 1978 at the
Grand Ole Opry, has been made available on video. But, there are concerts
with The Highwaymen that are
available. The most sought after videos are the "Waylon:
Renegade/Outlaw/Legend" video and the "America" video.
2.3 Is the "Waylon Jennings and Friends" series available on video?
Unforunately, no.
2.4 What soundtracks has Waylon worked on?
"Nashville Rebel" aside, Waylon has worked on several soundtracks.
"Ned Kelly" (1970), was a movie about the famed Australian outlaw.
United Artists, the film's distributor,
issued a sountrack LP that featured Waylon, Kris Kristofferson,
and Tom Ghent. Despite Mick Jagger's
starring role in the movie, he only had one song on the album.
"Ned Kelly" is currently available on home video and CD.
"Moonrunners" (1974), was the movie that led to "The Dukes Of Hazzard"
TV series.
Next was "Mackintosh
& TJ", which was Roy Rogers' last feature film. As of yet, neither
film has been released on home video.
Only "Mackintosh & TJ" had a soundtrack LP, which featured not only
Waylon, but also Willie Nelson. The
Waylors, Waylon's road band, are featured prominently on the
soundtrack.
"The Executioner's Song" (1979) was a low budget film that depicted
the final days of Gary Gilmore, whose
1977 execution by a Utah firing squad attracted worldwide attention.
For the soundtrack, Waylon
contributed several songs, including alternate versions of
"Are You Ready For The Country" and "This
Time". Only the movie's closing theme, "Defying Gravity
(The Executioner's Song)" was released on record
in 1987, several years after the movie. The movie was briefly
available on video in the mid-1980's, but is very hard to find today.
2.5 "The Dukes Of Hazzard"
"The Dukes Of Hazzard" was a one-hour TV series based on "Moonrunners",
that featured not only Waylon
as the "balladeer", but he also sang the show's theme song. The Waylors
provided the show's instrumental
background music. It premiered on CBS-TV January 26, 1979 and ran
until August 16, 1985.
Although there was an animated version of "The Dukes" that ran also
on CBS in 1983, Waylon had no
involvement in it, nor with a "Dukes" spinoff called "Enos" that
ran from 1980 to 1981.
In 1999, Warner Bros. Interactive released a Playstation game based
on "The Dukes" TV show. Waylon not
only reprised his role as the "Balladeer", but also did the games
opening theme.
Despite Waylon's heavy involvement with the show, he never appeared
on camera until episode #130,
"Welcome, Waylon Jennings". By that time, The Dukes' novelty was wearing
off, and was canceled by CBS less than a year later.
The theme song, "Theme From 'The Dukes Of Hazzard' (Good Ol' Boys)"
was released on Waylon's "Music
Man" album in 1980, and as a single. This single became Waylon's
biggest selling to date, and his only gold single.
2.6 What other movies has Waylon played in?
For the sake of brevity, we will list those films where Waylon has
an on-screen part. Although there are
films that use Waylon's music in their soundtracks, we will stick
with those where he contributes a song
unique to the film, i.e. "The Pursuit Of D.B. Cooper"
